30A is the slow road east of Destin — a Walton County coastal highway strung with towns that look like a film set and function like towns. Seaside is the famous one: New Urbanist pastels, a green square, a beach pavilion that is the gulf’s front door. Grayton Beach, a few minutes west, is older in the soul — sand in the street, a state park of real dunes. We park once. We bike or walk. We do not collect restaurants like stamps. Late October into the first of November is kinder than summer 30A: the light slants, the path is less of a parade.
How the days go
Friday
Arrive Santa Rosa Beach / Seaside. Sunset on the sand if the drive was kind. Early night.
Saturday
Meet at Seaside Town Square. Bike the 30A path — toward Grayton or east toward Rosemary, depending on legs. Gulf dips whenever the water calls. Sunset from the beach pavilion or the dune line.
Sunday
Grayton Beach State Park. Wilder than Destin’s condo stretch. Dunes, a different silence, then the drive home.
Who it’s for
Walkers and bikers. People who want pastel streets without itinerary tyranny. Fine with a 25–35 minute drive from Destin.
What to bring
- A bike if you have one — rentals exist in Seaside and Santa Rosa Beach
- Layers; late October evenings cool off
- Comfortable shoes you can sand
- A camera only if you will still look up
